Objective
Scheduled, thorough and systematic leak risk detection survey of the plant instrument air & control system.

The Project
Locate, identify, quantify and report instrument air leak risks.
Identify additional process improvement opportunities from the survey data set.

Key Results
-
Cost effectively perform a scheduled, thorough and systematic instrument air system integrity survey.
-
Locate, quantify, document and report instrument air leak risks the same day.
-
Communicate and enable location specific leak risk assessment and repair action prioritization through an online 3D model interface that visually identifies and describes the point of interest within context of the rest of the plant.
-
Facilitate remediation of critical control system leaks.
-
Deliver independent unbiased asset integrity verification data through real time 360 degree high resolution interactive SiteView of the plant.
-
Document and chronologically track leak risk assessment survey results over time.
-
Demonstrate compliance with corporate asset integrity management policies, procedures and government regulations.
Key Challenges
Hazardous atmosphere
-
Potential for chlorine rich atmosphere around dosing systems.
-
Potential for Hydrogen sulphide rich atmosphere around plant areas as a by-product of the water treatment process.
-
Potential for Methane gas a by-product of the process.
Hazardous work areas
-
Highly aerated liquid inside open top aeration ponds presents a drowning risk to personnel working over or near the ponds.
AISS Survey Solution
Ultrasonic leak survey
-
We deployed portable intrinsically safe ultrasonic emission detectors to locate instrument air emissions.
-
Tune-able ultrasonic technology enables us to detect instrument air leaks at very low pressures.
Integrated survey solution
-
Our process control system knowledge, survey technology and survey methods enabled us to locate, quantify, document and report instrument air leaks from a range of leak sources on process equipment that were otherwise masked by background process noise, out of reach and undetectable using conventional methods.
Reporting
-
AISS survey repots communicated and enabled location specific leak risk assessment and repair action prioritization.
-
This was done via our online 3D plant model interface that visually identifies and describes the point of interest within context of the rest of the plant.
Value Added
Risk Mitigation
-
Document and chronologically track leak risk assessment survey results over time.
-
Follow-up scheduled survey findings are documented in the same web based user interface allowing asset managers to visually compare base-line and follow-up condition monitoring data.
Regulatory Compliance
-
Demonstrate compliance with corporate asset integrity management policies, procedures and government regulations.
Reporting & Data Visualisation
-
We merge survey data from into a user-friendly visual report interface.
-
This allows non-technical personnel to visualise and contextually locate instrument system leak risks as if they are actually walking in the plant.
-
Visual comparison of survey results between base-line and scheduled follow-up surveys provides visual indication of the effectiveness of asset management programs.
